OpenAI Introduces New Version of ChatGPT

Creators of ChatGPT — the company OpenAI — are preparing to loosen the constraints on their AI chatbot. It looks like ChatGPT will soon become less restrictive. The developers plan to relax internal limitations, allowing it to respond to queries that were previously blocked. In particular, this includes generating adult-themed content. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has openly stated that their approach is changing. He noted that the company intends to finally “treat adult users as adults”. This isn’t just talk. Starting in December, with the release of an update, many previous restrictions will be lifted.

What’s New in ChatGPT?

• Customizable tone and style. You can now tailor the chatbot to communicate in the way you prefer. Need a formal, professional tone? No problem. Want it to chat like a close friend, complete with jokes and emojis? That’s possible too. Importantly, this mode won’t be applied by default—it will only activate if you choose it.
• Ability to create adult content. The most significant change is that ChatGPT will now be allowed to generate content that was previously off-limits, such as erotic literature. However, there’s a key condition: access to these features will require age verification to confirm you’re 18 or older.
• Enhanced parental controls and monitoring. Parents can link accounts to monitor chat histories. Additionally, you’ll be able to set time limits on usage and restrict the range of topics for conversation.
• Evolving into a versatile tool. ChatGPT is outgrowing its role as just a chatbot. It can now do more than chat—you can use it to search for and book hotels, find flights, or even order groceries.

Altman made it clear: the new version will be much freer. He cited a specific example—generating adult content. However, such content won’t be available to everyone. It will be a separate feature, accessible only to users who have verified their age and are of legal adult age. Altman emphasizes that ChatGPT should be a flexible tool that adapts to users’ real needs. If someone wants the chatbot to communicate like a real person, use plenty of emojis, or act like an old friend, that should be possible. The key point he highlights: these changes are driven by genuine user demand, not just to artificially boost metrics. By the way, Elon Musk’s company xAI, which created the chatbot Grok, has already taken a similar approach. They simply developed two separate bots designed for explicit content—that’s their solution. For OpenAI, this is a bold move. On one hand, allowing adult content is a surefire way to attract a new audience and increase paid subscriptions. People have always been drawn to what’s been restricted. But there’s a flip side. As soon as ChatGPT starts generating such content, it will likely draw scrutiny from regulators. Lawmakers may start pushing for stricter oversight of all AI chatbots, which could lead to new restrictions across the industry.
